Turn to page 10 and copy down the following information: Suffixes – The ending of a word. -able, -ible: can be done (capable) -al, -ial: have characteristics of (social) -ed: past-tense (hopped) -en: made of (wooden) -er: comparative, one who (higher, worker) -ful: full of (hopeful) -ic: having characteristics of (heroic) -ment: action or process (enjoyment)

Turn to page one in your Springboard books. As we read the Unit Overview, we are going to double underline our major keys: This unit focuses on the challenges of heroism. Because this word is used every day – in television shows, movies, video games, books, the news, school, and conversations – we rarely take time to actually think about what it means. In this unit, you will research, read, and write to develop a more complex understanding of this important societal and cultural concept.
