Good Afternoon Everyone, We are representatives from Union Pacific RR. We know that you all are juniors and about this time you are thinking about what your next steps are after college. Whether it is owning your own business or going into the corporate world. Today our goal is to provide you with some tips to success to kind of ease the anxiety. Know that the best way to be successful is to be prepared. First let us start by introducing ourselves, then we will give you a little history about the company, then we will go right in the workshop and being with resume writing, followed by the interviewing process.

We operate in 23 states, mainly west of the Mississippi River and serve, or run through more than 7,000 communities. As the saying goes, we are a 32,000-mile factory without a roof. This means blizzards, floods, tornadoes and hurricanes are part of our life at the railroad. Many of our employees are out there in the bitter cold of the Sierra Nevada and the brutal heat of the Mojave Desert. It’s certainly not your average desk job. That’s one of the reasons why we are extremely proud of our 45,000 employees. 19 Stories 4,100 Employees Energy Innovators Award “Single Stream” Recycling Employee Training Center 600 Seat Employee Dining Room Fitness/Wellness Center Physician’s Clinic/Pharmacy Credit Union We are headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska in a newly built “UP Center” that is 1.3 Million Square Feet and 19 Stories high. The UP Center is the office of nearly 4,100 Employees October 31, 2007 – UPC the downtown Omaha headquarters of North America’s largest railroad, was today recognized for the technological innovations that have made it one of the nation’s most energy-efficient buildings. U.S. Secretary of Energy Samuel W. Bodman visited the railroad’s headquarters to present Union Pacific an Energy Innovators Award. UP Center employs "Single Stream" recycling so you can place paper, plastic, cardboard and many other materials in the recycling bin, making it easy to increase success. Top 5 Do’s and Don’ts of Interviewing
Do dress for the job, the company, the industry. Do know your resume Do your research and know the interview you will be encountering. Do avoid controversial subjects Do close the interview Tell the interviewer (s) that you want the job (Some experts even say you should close the interview by asking for the job.) Mike will chime in to expand open knowing the specific examples. Do show enthusiasm in the position and the company. Discuss writing a thank you letter when you discuss closing the interview. Top 5 Do’s and Don’ts of Interviewing
Don't answer questions with a simple "yes" or "no." Don't inquire about salary, vacations, bonuses, retirement, or other benefits until after you've received an offer Don't bring up or discuss personal issues or family problems. Don't lie. Don't say anything negative about former colleagues, supervisors, or employers. Be prepared for a question about your salary requirements, but do try and delay salary talk until you have an offer. Don't answer questions with a simple "yes" or "no." Explain whenever possible. Describe those things about yourself that showcase your talents, skills, and determination. Give examples. Don't inquire about salary, vacations, bonuses, retirement, or other benefits until after you've received an offer Don't bring up or discuss personal issues or family problems. Don't ever lie.
