3. Automated Document Translation
Proposals for new software developments or modifications to existing software have to be produced at the speed of light .
Frequently, those documents need to be available in several major languages. As much as English is important and wide-spread, in many important markets, sometimes NTT DATA is lacking a bidding edge because our proposals are not available In the local language.
Application that will be developed in this project will to a great degree speed-up the translation process for such business documents.
Of course, high quality texts will always require a human touch and polish.

4. Deliverables
Students will design and build a web application that will ingest one or several MS Word or MS PPT documents, parse those documents and extract actual English text, translate text into a target language and then inject translated text into new MS Word or PPT documents.
The process will attempt to maintain formatting of the original document, keep images and other visual components.
The process will create a database of phrases and sentence that could be reused for future translations.
In all translations, experience is the key to high quality. The experience in this case means creation of specific dictionary of terms for the relevant business such as IT operations.

5. Software Frameworks
We will build this application using various COTS components.
User interface which selects documents for translation could be on a local machine or in the Cloud. The core of the application will reside in the Cloud.
Amazon Translate is a neural machine translation service that delivers fast, high-quality, and affordable language translation.
Neural machine translation is a form of language translation automation that uses deep learning models to deliver more accurate and more natural sounding translation than traditional statistical and rule-based translation algorithms.
Amazon Translate allows you to localize content - such as websites and applications - for international users, and to easily translate large volumes of text efficiently.

6. Skill Sets
Students working on this project will have to know or acquire very quickly C# (C-Sharp) APIs for manipulation of MS Word and PPT documents.
For work in the Cloud Python or Java programming language and some Linux scripting are needed.
Some familiarity with AWS Amazon Cloud.
Some familiarity with machine learning concepts.
By the end of the project students will acquire working knowledge of AWS Translate and several other AWS services.
By the end of the project students will become familiar with most important concepts in Machine Learning.
Students will also become skillful Python developers and skillful C# developers.

7. Communications and Results
Students implementing the project should have one or several meetings every week discussing progress and implementation details.
There will be one mandatory weekly meeting with project sponsor.
All work, including all architectural documents and functioning code should be delivered at the end of the project to NTT DATA.
