Made up of about 48 different languages Spoken by about 500 million people today Mainly in North America, Oceania, and Central, Western, and Northern Europe Examples: English (400 million) German (100 million) Dutch (23 million)

Sometimes called the Latin languages because they come from Latin More than 800 million people are native speakers worldwide Spoken mostly in southern and western Europe and Latin America Examples: Spanish (410 million) Portuguese (216 million) French (75 million) Italian (60 million),
