6 State social support benefits and means of the childcare in Slovakia
Birth grant – lump sum in total - 829,86 € Parental allowance – monthly 203,20 € is to provide proper care for a child under three years of age, or up to six years of age, if the child has poor long-term health conditions Child benefit – monthly 23,52€ Childcare allowance – from January 2016 increased from 230 € to 280 € per month The childcare allowance is intended for parents who have decided to go back to their employment before their child reaches three years of age, or up to six years of age in case of a child with long-term health condition and the care is provided by formal care provider or by another legal person. 8 Improvement of measures aimed at childcare
Starting points The government has committed pursuant to governmental declaration for the programming period covering the years 2016 – 2020 to create legislative basis for development of social services in support of family with dependent children up to the age of three within the reconciliation of  family and work life. The European Council in 2002 in Barcelona set objectives in the area of child care services that have bound member states of EU to establish care centres for at least 90% of children between three years of age until starting the compulsory education and at least 33% of children under the age of three.
