3 This picture shows the men from the Bride’s family dancing the traditional dance. The coat represents a sort of sash tied around the waist when dancing. This is done when the girl’s parents have accepted the bride’s price and given consent of their daughters marriage.

5 This picture shows Christine in traditional and ceremonial dress carrying presents for the brides family. Christine was part of the groom’s entourage that were being formally introduced to the brides family.

7 This picture shows the Bride and Groom, Harriet and Joel, cutting the cake, after they exchange rings formalising their engagement.

9 This picture shows the unmarried girls who are being displayed or presented to greet the groom’s entourage, just in case one of them catches someone’s eye (hopefully a future son-in-law). This has been modernised and today the girls all dress up in similar outfits for smartness and organisation.

11 This picture shows the bride’s aunties and friends celebrating the formalised engagement and presents brought by the groom. These usually include cows, fruit and other food stuff. The bride is sitting in the middle with her bouquet.
