Grants Development writes and submits proposals to governmental sponsors
VCF writes and submits proposals to private sponsors
Department head (potential project director) may be asked to provide specs, such as budgetary quotes or activity timelines; what is approved is project director’s responsibility

3. Sponsor Negotiations Sponsor rejects or accepts proposal
For private awards, department begins spending, submits reimbursement requests to VCF, and VCF reimburses the departmental budget
For governmental awards, Grants Development helps review contract terms, negotiate final agreement, and secure President signature

4. Gov’t Award Setup
Grants Development conducts orientation for Project Director and other relevant employees including contract review and compliance overview
Business Office creates a unique budget number for the award (like a departmental budget) to which related expenses will be charged and tracked
