2 About the Authors Anne Bradstreet: Edward Taylor:
Was essentially the first notable American poet, as a Puritan this achievement was remarkable Her poetry focused primarily on the realities of her likes – her husband, eight children, and her house. Edward Taylor: Was one of colonial America’s most inventive poets. Came to America in 1668 to escape religious persecution He wrote his poetry to glorify God and his poems served as a form of worship

The speaker describes her love for her husband and the value that she places upon his love for her. She concludes by saying that they will be rewarded in heaven for their love.

After her beloved home is destroyed in a fire the poem’s speaker grieves over her devastating loss but recognizes that true wealth, and her true home, are in heaven.
