2 Sentence Fragment A group of words that does not express a complete thought May begin with a capital letter and end with a period; still not a sentence Certain information is missing

3 Sentence Fragment Missing a subject: Missing a verb:
Fragment: Ran away with the bone. (Who ran away?) Missing a verb: Fragment: The rags under the sink. (What about them?) Missing a complete thought: Fragment: After we studied a lot. (What happened after?)

4 Sentence Fragment To fix a fragment, add what is missing.
Missing a subject: Fragment: Ran away with the bone. (Who ran away?) Correct: The dog ran away with the bone. Missing a verb: Fragment: The rags under the sink. (What about them?) Correct: The rags under the sink are dirty. Missing a complete thought: Fragment: After we studied a lot. (What happened after?) Correct: After we studied a lot, we did well on the test.

5 Run-on Sentence Two or more complete sentences without the proper punctuation One type is made up of two sentences without any punctuation. Run-on: The storm got worse it turned toward the land. The second type is made up of two sentences separated only by a comma (comma splice). Comma splice: We were not hungry, we already had lunch.

6 Run-on Sentence To fix a run-on, add appropriate punctuation:
Use terminal punctuation: Run-on: The sky got dark it started to rain. Correct: The sky got dark. It started to rain. Use a semicolon: Run-on: I couldn’t wait to jump in the water looked cool. Correct: I couldn’t wait to jump in; the water looked cool. Use a comma and a conjunction: Run-on: Most of my friends love fried chicken I do not. Correct: Most of my friends love fried chicken, but I do not.

Taking place after two drivers have a disagreement. Bacteria in food can cause illness you should take care to store food properly. Hamburgers should be eaten well-done, cooking kills the bacteria. Because driving can be very stressful. Raw eggs are not safe to eat they may contain salmonella.
