1 IEEE SoutheastCon Robot

2 IEEE ROBOT -IEEE national competition
Mission: To engineer a fully autonomous (12”x12”x12”) robot capable of navigating and completing specified tasks within a field of size (8’x4’) -IEEE national competition -FIT won in April, 2017 -First time as a senior design project

3 Winning Robot

6 Some Robot Requirements
The robot is relatively small (< 12”x 12” x 12”) It is a challenge to fit into this footprint the mechanisms required to complete the tasks The robot is autonomous It is un-tethered, and no communication with the robot is permitted during a trial This year’s robot learns one of several paths to follow from an encoded start signal (IR)

7 The Field The robot navigates on a 4’ by 8’ field
The team builds their own test field complete with various actuators, sensors, electronics, code, etc. The field may have multiple vertical levels Often there are CG considerations for the robot E.g., this years robot must climb a ramp while carrying a two-pound weight that it picked up

8 IEEE Robot -Tasks and rules will be announced next Wednesday
-decided by the hosting institution -Tasks in the past: -shooting a nerf dart through a hole -picking up and transporting a 2 lb. weight -picking up and moving blocks into bins of corresponding colors

9 Ideal Team The ideal team would include EE, ME, CS students with prior robotic experience Valuable ME skills: CAD, fabrication, “mechanical” ideation Valuable CS skills: dead reckoning, or more sophisticated navigation coding, Raspberry Pi Valuable EE skills: circuit design, motor-control, using servos, microcontrollers
