Welcome!
I. What is Accounting?
Something to do with money? That’s what most students say when I ask them that question. It’s my job this semester to provide you with a better answer!
Basically accounting has to do with planning, recording, analyzing and interpreting financial information. In this class we will spend time breaking this down and seeing what it means in the real world. You learned a lot in Accounting I -- expect to greatly expand on that knowledge in your second semester of study!
II. What will be taught in Accounting II
Accounting procedures for merchandising businesses organized as partnerships and corporations. We will go through the process of setting up these types of businesses and keeping all their records. Some specific topics:
Recording purchases and cash payments using special journals.
Accounting for uncollectible Account Receivables
Accounting for plant assets and depreciation
Accounting for inventory
Accounting for notes and interest
Distributing dividends and preparing financial statements for corporations.
A Business simulation! This is an amazing culminating activity. We will spend the last four weeks of the semester doing all of the accounting work for a business organized as a corporation. This includes journalizing transactions, posting, preparing financial statements, issuing checks and performing closing entries at the end of the fiscal period.

III. Computerized Accounting:
This is a computerized Accounting course. However, expect to be doing manual accounting well. Sometimes you flat out need to do it by hand to fully understand what’s going on! You will have the opportunity to complete accounting problems using Peachtree Accounting Software.
IV. Grading
You will be graded on a total points basis. You earn points from in class assignments, homework assignments, study guides, tests and quizzes.
The grading scale is as follows: A A- B+ B
B - C+ C C- D+ D D-
