2 What does it mean for a sentence to be active or passive voice?
Active Voice is when the SUBJECT is actually doing the ACTION of the verb. She drove the truck into a bus. Passive Voice is when the SUBJECT is NOT doing the ACTION of the verb. The truck was driven into a bus by the girl.

3 Active Voice The boy threw the ball. First, find the verb.
Second, ask yourself, “Who is doing this?” Third, if the person doing the action comes before the verb the sentence is active. The boy threw the ball.

4 Passive Voice The ball was thrown by the boy. The ball was thrown.
First, find the verb. Second, ask yourself, “Who is doing this?” Third, if the person doing the action comes after OR if the person is not known, then the sentence is passive. The ball was thrown by the boy. The ball was thrown.

5 Active or Passive The poem about autumn leaves was written by Pam.

6 Kenny Chesney sang a sad song.
