Rasoul Hosseini Electrical and Computer Science Department CIRCUIT OPERATION THERMAL MODEL ABSTRACT Integrated DC power system has attracted attention recently among researchers in industry and academia. Future traction systems for automobile, ship, airplane and trains will likely use DC power systems. Conversion of various levels of DC voltage requires converters called DC-DC converter. Such converters will be most desirable if they can provide electrical isolation to provide protection for the components of the system as well as the safety of the operator. Such protection scheme can be implemented using magnetic devices like transformers to decouple two electric zones with different voltage levels while enabling bi-directional power transfer. CHALLENGES Transformers can be utilized only with AC voltages. This means conversion of DC to AC and then AC to DC is required for such converter. Dual active bridge topology is an attractive topology for this task. The two active bridges will enable the DC to AC conversion and the phase shift between the two bridges will enable the power flow. Semiconductor based switches are the devices that enable the conversion from AC to DC and DC to AC. For higher power systems, the switching frequency is limited because of the loss that is involved during the process. Using Silicon Carbide switches rather than Silicon based ones can lead to operation with higher switching frequency which causes the magnetic components to be smaller and lighter which is very desirable for traction systems. In this research we will provide the design flow for power dense dual active bridge converter with bidirectional power flow capability.   DESING FLOW SIMULATION RESULTS
