7 Major Difference between BMW 1998 & 2016
Occupier more than 1000 beds is required to obtain authorization Every occupier including health camp or Ayush require to have authorization. Operator duties are absent. Operator duties have been clearly listed. Biomedical waste is divided into 10 categories. Biomedical waste is divided into 4 color coded categories. No format for annual Reporting. A format for annual reporting have been included . Provision of Bar code system for BMW bags and container with GPRS enabled system.

8 BMW Rule 2016 at a Glance… The ambit of the rules has been expanded to include vaccination camps, blood donation camps, surgical camps and first aids room in schools. Phase-out the use of chlorinated plastic bags, gloves and blood bags within two years. Pre-treatment of the laboratory waste, microbiological waste, blood samples and blood bags through disinfection or sterilisation on-site in the manner as prescribed by WHO or NACO.

9 BMW Rule 2016 at a Glance… Establish a Bar-Code System for bags or containers containing bio-medical waste for disposal. The use of hydroclave and plasma pyrolysis for the incineration of biomedical wastes leads to lesser environmental degradation . Provide training to all its health care workers and immunise all health workers regularly. Monitoring sector, where MoEFCC(Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Climate change) will review health care facilities once a year .
