Prior Knowledge 1 Leave 1 page blank to create your table of contents. We often are faced with problems where we need to work out the value of an unknown quantity. Write the following questions as equations and solve. When 6 is added to a number, the result is 8. What is the number? When 3 is subtracted from a number, the result is 11. What is the number? When a number is multiplied by 4, the result is 28. What is the number? When a number is divided by 5, the result is 3. What is the number?
