Lazy Lizards Inspired by Painting on Rocks for Kids Artwork by Mrs. Cole

2 Look at a lizard. Look closely at this gecko.
Look for the parts that are lighter or darker. What do you notice?

3 Look at a different lizard
Look closely at a salamander. Look at the pattern on his skin. Look for the light and dark areas. What do you notice?

4 Step 1 Draw your lizard. Use most of the page.

5 Step 2 Carefully paint the whole lizard yellow.
Use a small brush for the legs and feet.

6 Step 3 Use a small brush to outline in green or your chosen colour.
Go around the eye. Fill in the legs and feet.

7 Step 4 Use a medium sized brush to fill in the body.
Notice the lizard looks flat/2D.

8 Step 5 Mix up 3 increasingly lighter shades of green in separate wells on your palate.

9 Step 6 Use the lightest shade to show the shiny spots
Gradually blend your colours from lightest to darkest on the body. Don’t forget to add shiny parts on his head, legs and toes.

10 Step 7 Paint the eye area white.
Use the tip of a small brush to add in the nostrils and the pupil of the eye. Use black and/or gray for the shadow under the lizard.

11 Step 8 Mix up an orange-yellow shade to create a darker area on the tummy. Add in a dot of white in the centre of the eye as a shiny part.

12 Step 9 Fill in a background for your lizard.
Remember to use different shades on your rock too.

13 Repeat Steps 1-9 Repeat all of the steps we have shown here on a rock.
When your rock is done, Mrs. Cole will spray sealant on your rock to preserve the paint.
