1 Sompion Tähti Cooperative -home care and helping people in their daily activities within 20 small villages in Eastern Lapland, Finland where there are more reindears than people

2 Sompion Tähti started 2013 Founded after a 8 month project with public Leader funding Entrepreneurers or private people were not interested in being part of Cooperative > founded by a group of 10 people Received help from other Cooperatives (rules, organization, cost calculation etc.) Board board members Sodankylä has 1 representative in the board very close collaboration with Sodankylä sending clients A typical client visit lasts from 1 hour (shower, skin care) to 4 hours 15-27 part time employers and 3 entrepreneurs in collaboration A lot of voluntary work has been done by the board members

3 Services at sparcely populated area at the moment –inhabitants travelling daily or moving to the center (day care, school, work, health services, pharmacy, activities, banking services, social services, shopping…) Sompion Tähti aim is to create part time jobs in the villages and enable elderly get home services Center Vuotso 89km Lokka 89 km Villages (29) Sompion Tähti employes people in the villages to provide services locally.

Challenge in Finland; Finance and organisation based services are a complex labyrinth to a client: Home Care Medication delivery Personal hygiene practical nurse Home hospital Nurses, doctor available Elderly care Veterans Possibility to get house cleaning and nursing care Same- local ethnic origin people Specific funding for their home services Social care Funding can be applied for specific needs (low income) Disability -Special needs Travel aid Weekly bus transportation to go shoping/health centre etc. Clients can buy services directly and get deductation in their taxation (app. 50% of the costs returned)

6 Digital apps and devices help to maintain basic security and home care teams can focuse more to the client needs – even 90+ elderly clients may use pc, tablet and smart phone (30 clients learning more about digital world, AUTA-project 2017) Employment possibilities - provide local services, -mobile reporting, salary and invoicing Home care, self care – active life and more responsibility of own health Social life: -morning coffee virtually with friends -afternoon chat with grand children -virtual group meetings Local service providers are close to the client –feeling of security increases Young can help with new technology (smart phone, pc…) -more communication between elderly and youngsteers Safety; digital security assecories (digital alarms to the doors, rooms, hearing aids…) Voluntary work, associations, courses, exercises and activities at village houses Housing, environment – is the house safe for the elderly? -heating large house is also a cost burden

8 VILLAGE LIFE – FUTURE LIVING IN SODANKYLÄ AND LAPLAND REGION - the goal to develope local services and regional business models instead of a continuous transportation of people and services HOME CARE NURSE -measurements can be done at home and sent digitally to your health records - primary care doctor is at your service, responding to the needs immediately Social life and rehabilitation -digital world is available E-services - easily reachable wellness services- (prevention, follow-up, after treatment care), digital broad band services via mobile phone or pc available Self Care - part of your overall health care plan -customers perform measurements themselves and fill in their health information into their ePatient records (maternity card, blood pressure, diabetes, weight control etc.) -customers learn more about their sicknesses and health intervations and take more responsibility on their life style choices MEDICAL CONSULTANTS Center of Excellences -neurology, cardiology, maternity, pediatrics joint re-placemt, etc. 330 villages in Lapland Traffic routes Broadband internet acces, ip phones, TV, services, information access, virtual schools/studies –learn Spanish in Lapland Automated, secure medicine delivery with bar code, Alaska
