1 Year 6 – Science Investigation.
This layout is designed based on the upper key stage 2 programme of study to deepen understanding of scientific enquiry. It allows children to add their suggestions on sticky notes which then carry across to the next part of the enquiry. Variables become the fair test. The prediction links to the conclusion Use the conclusion to identify what happens next.

2 Design an Experiment What? When? Where? How?
What do you want to find out? Variables. What could you change? Plan different types of scientific enquiries to answer questions, including recognising and controlling variables where necessary. Why?

3 Choose one of the notes above.
Design an Experiment When? What? Where? How? What do you want to find out? Variables. What could you change? What will you change? Choose one of the notes above. Why?

4 Design an Experiment What? When? Where? How?
Prediction. What do you think will happen? Fair test. These need to stay the same. How will you measure this? What units will you use? Why?

6 Draw and label your experiment.

7 Look at your sticky notes.
Check… Look at your sticky notes. Will your experiment… answer your question? be fair? allow you to take, record and present measurements? If not, modify it. If so, do it!

8 Carry out your experiment!
I can : take measurements, using a range of scientific equipment, with increasing accuracy and precision, taking repeat readings when appropriate. use test results to make predictions to set up further comparative and fair tests. reporting and presenting findings from enquiries, including conclusions, causal relationships and explanations of and degree of trust in results, in oral and written forms such as displays and other presentations. identifying scientific evidence that has been used to support or refute ideas or arguments.

10 Carry out your experiment!
When? What? Where? How? Prediction. What do you think will happen? Report and present findings from enquiries, including conclusions, causal relationships and explanations of and degree of trust in results, in oral and written forms such as displays and other presentations. Conclusion. What did you see happen?

11 What next? When? What? Where? How? Ideas on sticky notes
Use test results to make predictions to set up further comparative and fair tests. Conclusion. What did you see happen?
