1 Warm up. LOOK AT YOU SHIRT TAG and write down where it comes from.
Speculate why it was made there and not in the USA

2 KEY ISSUE 1.3 Globalization- A force or process that involves the entire world and its and results in making something worldwide in scope.

3 GLOBALIZED ECONOMY Transnational Corporations- influences a globalized economy through conducting research, selling products and operates factories in many different countries.

4 OPTIC Object: What is being shown in image
Parts: Identify various parts or objects depicted in image Title of Words: What is the title? What is the document about? Interrelationships: What is happening between each object/thing/place? How are they different? How are they the same? How do they relate to one another? Conclusion: Close notes and observations or thoughts.

7 Globalization of Culture

8 Space- Time Compression
Define: How does this term impact globalization?

9 How are features distributed?
Density, Concentration, and Pattern How are features distributed?

10 Distribution, Density, and Concentration
Mr. Koch’s Facebook friends

11 Distribution The arrangement of features in space
May be numerous (friends in Iowa) or scarce (friends in Australia) Close or far apart Three main properties of space: Density Concentration Pattern

12 Density Definition: How often something occurs in space.
High density=something occurs often Note: Large population does not always mean high density. Low density= something occurs rarely Kinds of density Arithmetic density (including population density) Physiological density Agricultural density

13 Arithmetic Density The total number of a certain object in an area
Often compares population in different countries Myth: Large population means high population density

14 Physiological Density
The number of people per unit of land suitable for agriculture (farming). A high physiological density may mean a country can’t grow enough food to feed its population

15 Agricultural Density Number of farmers per unit of area suitable for agriculture High agricultural density means that most people grow just enough to feed themselves and their families (subsistence farming)

16 How spread out are features over space?
Concentration

17 Concentration, continued
Clustered: If objects in an area are relatively close together, they are clustered

18 Concentration, continued
Dispersed: If objects in an area are relatively far apart, they are dispersed. Major League baseball teams are dispersed across the U.S. and Canada

19 The geometric arrangement of objects in space
Pattern

20 Pattern Objects can be organized in a geometric pattern or irregular shape
