2 Baylor University’s Undergraduate Research Journal in Science
What is Scientia? Baylor University’s Undergraduate Research Journal in Science & Technology Our Mission Statement: “Scientia shall provide a professional platform upon which undergraduates of Baylor University are able to publish personally conducted and outstanding research in the areas of biological sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, and technology.” AKA: A journal that you can publish your work in Talk about when it started (Spring 2014), its goals (highlight research done at Baylor, help students get exposed to scientific writing, etc) Also in the process of getting indexed, so we will have an ISSN and an online version of each article that you can access!

3 Benefits of Publishing in Scientia
Share knowledge with the world Experience the process of publishing in a scientific journal--Get published! Build stronger relationships with your mentor and members of your lab An experience to discuss at length in your graduate and professional school interview For a lot of classes and labs, you have to make a poster/write an article anyway (for credit,etc), so you might as well publish it and put it on your CV!

We accept: Original Research Articles Review Articles Abstracts Fields of Study Included: Neuroscience and Psychology Clinical Biology Biochemistry and Chemistry Physics Engineering Computer Science and Bioinformatics Math Statistics Looking for diversity in this issue, so when in doubt, submit

When can I submit? Submissions are accepted between: September 28th – December 1st December 1st – January 28th Greater chance of acceptance if you submit during the first submission window

12 After Submitting Responses: Accepted Rejected Editing process:
Meet with the editorial board to refine your submission Sent to professors and deans of the College of Arts and Sciences Have your mentor from Baylor fill out a PI Approval Form If you completed your research outside of Baylor, ask the professor who was a reference yours to sign the form. talk about how the editing process will work, we have 7 editors on the team, will meet with you at least once to go over revisions, and then sent to professors and deans for final review

13 You will receive an within a week of your submission letting you know that we have received the submission.

14 If you do NOT receive such an email within 7 days of submitting:
CHECK that you really did submit (on the Jot Form) If you did, then You will receive an regarding the decision for your submission within 3 weeks of the deadline of the submission window.

15 Tips on Writing Read research articles on the same topic to understand how to write Word choice Format Tone/style Find these using Baylor Library’s online databases. DO NOT: Write like you would write for an English class (no literary techniques such as metaphors, personification, etc.) Add fluff to add length DO: Be clear and concise
