Appalachian Plateau Region
The Appalachian Plateau Region is Georgia’s smallest physiographic region
It has many limestone caves, deep canyons, rock formations
It is the home of the Cumberland Plateau (Lookout Mountain and Sand Mountain separated by limestone ridges)
In this region you can find rich deposits of limestone, shale, and sandstone soils

Ridge and Valley Region
The Ridge and Valley Region is between Blue Ridge Mountains and the Appalachian Plateau
It has low open valleys parallel to narrow ridges
The Elevation in this region ranges from 700 to 1600 feet above sea level
Forests and pastures dominate the region
Limestone and clay soils are found in the valley
Shale and sandstone on the ridges

Blue Ridge Region
The Blue Ridge Region is located in the northeastern part of the state
This region contains state’s highest and largest group of mountains
Brasstown Bald, Georgia highest mountain is here
Mountains provide much precipitation (water) for the state
Sandy loam and clay soils are found here
The region supplies Georgia with hardwood forests, vegetable farming, and apples

Piedmont Plateau Region
The Piedmont Plateau Region begins in mountain foothills of Georgia and goes to state’s central part
It is know for its gently sloping hills in north, flatlands in the south
Hardwood timber, pine, and agriculture are the major economic products in this region
Red clay and granite base are found here
This region is also home to the Chattahoochee, Flint, Ocmulgee, and Oconee rivers

Coastal Plains Region
The Coastal Plains Region is largest region in Georgia, it makes up three-fifths of state
The region is divided into two sub-regions the Inner Coastal Plain and Outer Coastal Plain
Inner Coastal Plain: has a mild climate, a good underground water supply, and is the state’s major agricultural region
Outer Coastal Plain (southwest corner): has rich soil for peanuts, pecans, corn, and pulp production
This region is the home of low-lying freshwater wetlands like the Okefenokee Swamp
