Scotland's renewable energy industry has attracted £2.8 billion capital investment since 2009. The figures shows that the renewable sector is continuing to thrive despite economic uncertainty. Onshore wind accounts for 57 percent of total investment with 21 percent going to offshore wind. The rest of the investment has been deivded between wave and tidal energy, solar photovoltaics, hydro energy, landfill gas and biofuels. The new investment figures were released by industry body Scottish Renewables. Niall Stuart, chief executive of Scottish Renewables, said: "These figures show Scotland’s renewables industry is very much bucking the economic trend.  During the downturn our industry has delivered some £2.8bn of much needed capital investment in our economy.  This has helped to grow the supply chain, secure the future of many companies and support more than 11,000 jobs.
