Percentage of Positive Biopsy Cores Can Improve the Ability to Predict Lymph Node Invasion in Patients Undergoing Radical Prostatectomy and Extended Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection  Alberto Briganti, Pierre I. Karakiewicz, Felix K.-H. Chun, Andrea Gallina, Andrea Salonia, Giuseppe Zanni, Luc Valiquette, Markus Graefen, Hartwig Huland, Patrizio Rigatti, Francesco Montorsi  European Urology  Volume 51, Issue 6, Pages (June 2007) DOI: /j.eururo Copyright © 2007 European Association of Urology Terms and Conditions

2 Fig. 1 Nomograms predicting the probability of lymph node invasion (LNI) in patients undergoing radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP) and extended pelvic lymphadenectomy (ePLND), based on pretreatment PSA coded as continuous variable, clinical stage, biopsy Gleason sum, and either percentage of positive cores (A), or number of positive cores (B). Instructions: Locate the patient’s pretreatment PSA on the PSA axis. Draw a line straight upward to the point axis to determine how many points towards the probability of positive lymph nodes the patient receives for his PSA value. Repeat the process for each additional variable. Sum the points for each of the predictors. Locate the final sum on the total point axis. Draw a line straight down to find the patient’s probability of having LNI. PSA=prostate-specific antigen; stage=clinical stage; Gleason sum=biopsy Gleason sum; prob. of pN+=probability of lymph node invasion. 3 Fig. 2 Nomograms predicting the probability of lymph nodes invasion (LNI) in patients undergoing radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP) and extended pelvic lymphadenectomy (ePLND), based on pretreatment PSA coded as cubic spline to allow for nonlinear effects, clinical stage, biopsy Gleason sum, and either percentage of positive cores (A) or number of positive cores (B). PSA=prostate-specific antigen; stage=clinical stage; Gleason sum=biopsy Gleason sum; prob. of pN+=probability of lymph node invasion.
