Numbers 27:1-5

2 The Remembrance of their Father

3 Who was not a part of a mass rebellion against the Lord.
So the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “Speak to the congregation, saying, ‘Get away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.’ ” Numbers 16:23-24

4 Who was not a part of a mass rebellion against the Lord.
31 Now it came to pass, as he finished speaking all these words, that the ground split apart under them, 32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the men with Korah, with all their goods Numbers 16:31-32

5 However, he died according to his own sin.
3 “Our father died in the wilderness; but he was not in the company of those who gathered together against the Lord, in company with Korah, but he died in his own sin; and he had no sons. Numbers 27:3

6 Their Duty to their Family.

7 Concern for the Family Name.
1. They did not want their family name to end because their father had no sons. 2. Their lack of inheritance at this point was not due to sin, but because their father simply had no sons.

8 Concern for the Family Name.
3. So the plea was that they not be without an inheritance simply because their father had no sons.

9 Creating a Family that would continue.
7 “The daughters of Zelophehad speak what is right; you shall surely give them a possession of inheritance among their father's brothers, and cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them. Numbers 27:7

10 Creating a Family that would continue.
1 Now the chief fathers of the families of the children of Gilead the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near and spoke before Moses and before the leaders, the chief fathers of the children of Israel. Numbers 36:1

11 Lessons for Us Today

12 Wisdom of the Daughters
1. The daughters request was done in a respectful way. 2. The approach was not a demand but a request. 3. Their desire was not immoral.

13 Concern for a Future Family shows great foresight.
1. The inheritance was more than an continuation of a name but also included physical and material gain. 2.This inheritance was an aide to help with any future families.

14 Conclusion 1. The daughter’s actions show concern for their families, we too should look out for the welfare of our families as well. 2. These ladies saw an area of concern and they handled and did so properly.
