Inland Revenue – tax, national insurance VAT Public Liability / Professional Indemnity Insurance / product liability Health & Safety Limited / Sole trader / Partnership. Introduction to the ‘officialdom’. How these departments and people will affect our business and why we must work with them Must register as self employed within 3 months Must register for VAT if turnover is expected to exceed £73,000 per annum Public liability – usually about £100, covers for accidents caused by working practice Professional indemnity – H&S must meet legal requirements – ignorance no defence, research own industry. Must provide policy if 5 or more employees.

What businesses will attract funding?. How the business can be funded, Are there any grants available/loans. What will be needed to convince funders that your business is worth their risk

15 You need to consider: Explore The Business Idea Start Your Market Research Build Credibility & Promote Word of Mouth Recommendations Why would people buy from you and not the established competition? The more you know about who your competitors are, the easier it will be for you to find what is unique about your business.. Someone else’s- a bought, borrowed or adapted idea. The personal- an idea based on what you know/what you have learnt to do. The inventive- a genuinely new concept. Finding out about your competitors and potential customers. Assessing if your product/service is in demand.
