Remember… the reason for our obedience is not that we HAVE in order to earn salvation but because we DESIRE to be led by the Spirit
Remember… there is a difference between obedience through reverence and humility and obedience through self-righteousness

“When we think we are good enough to earn salvation, Christ has no value to us.” vs. 5:2
“BUT do not use your freedom to indulge in your sinful nature…” vs. 5:13

4. We will have acts of the sinful nature…
Sexual immorality
Impurity and debauchery
Idolatry and witchcraft
Hatred
Discord
Jealousy
Fits of rage
Selfish ambition
Factions and envy
Drunkenness
Orgies
And the like…

5. Fruits of the Spirit… Love Peace Patience Kindness Goodness
Faithfulness
Gentleness
Self-Control

6. How do we know we have true faith?
When there is awareness and repentance from actions of the sinful nature and when there are fruits of the Spirit in your behavior.
To love God is to obey him – 1 John 5:3
Fruit = evidence of faith – 1 John 2:5
Lets not forget God does not want us to be slaves to our sin anymore! Romans 6:6

7. What if I don’t have much “fruit” in my life
What if I don’t have much “fruit” in my life? Does that mean I have no faith?
The very fact you are asking that question is evidence of faith having been planted in you!
This does not mean you have no faith! This means you are being sanctified! – Romans 8

8. In Summery…
1st - God gave us first the Torah (AKA the “Hebrew Bible” which is the first 5 books of the bible that establishes truth of creation and God’s law
2nd - God provides history/prophet books that prove that we cannot satisfy His law with our own obedience
3rd - God provides the “wisdom” books to lead and guide us on our path

9. 4th – God provides the books of the Gospel of Christ’s life on earth that justifies us by faith in Him
5th – God provides the epistles and “witness” books which sanctify us through our new birth in faith which is ongoing until we are with him in His kingdom of glory
