It is important for readers to look at the text features to get an idea of what the text is about before reading it

A picture can be a photograph or an illustration. A picture helps the reader see details about the text.

A caption is a sentence that tells about a photograph or illustration. A caption gives me more information about a picture.

A label is a word or phrase that tells about a photograph or illustration. A label names the parts of a picture.

Bold print is darker or brighter. Bold print tells the reader that a word is important.
A field is a place where plants grow.

Where do seeds come from? Seeds come in many shapes and sizes. Seeds need water, light and a warm place to grow. Seeds have parts to help them grow.
A heading tells the reader what a section is about. A heading gives me an idea of what a passage is about.
