1 Temperature, Pressure and volume
17-Nov-18 Objective To study the affects of a change in temperature on the volume of a gas. Revision Tomorrow Quiz on Friday

2 Contracting air experiment
Equipment Bunsen Heat proof mat Gauze Tripod Clamp stand Beaker Test tube Coloured water Method Put 150ml of coloured water into the beaker and place on a gauze on a tripod. Secure the test tube into the clamp stand upside down, in the beaker. So that there is a 1cm gap between the opening of the test tube and the base of the beaker. Heat it until the water is continuously boiling. Turn off the Bunsen.

3 Collapsing can experiment
Equipment Bunsen Heat proof mat Drinks can Small amount of water Tongs Water bath Method Put a small amount of water in a can. Heat the can until the steam escapes from the can. Quickly turn the can over into the water bath.

4 volume atmospheric pressure condensed rise
Conclusion volume atmospheric pressure condensed rise Collapsing can In this experiment, as the water vapour in the can __________ into liquid water, the ___________ the water occupied decreased very quickly. This caused a drop in ___________ which led to the can being crushed by the __________ pressure. Contracting Air In this experiment, as the water cooled, the ___________ the air occupied dropped. This causes the water to _________ inside the test tube as it was being pushed up by the ___________ pressure.

5 volume atmospheric pressure condensed rise
Conclusion volume atmospheric pressure condensed rise Contracting Air In this experiment, as the water cooled, the ___________ the air occupied dropped. This causes the water to _________ inside the test tube as it was been pushed up by the ___________ pressure.

6 True/False As the temperature of a gas increases, the particles start moving around faster. As the pressure in a container increases, the particles in a gas bounce off the walls more. As the temperature of a gas increases, the pressure will increase if the volume is fixed. As the temperature of a gas decreases, the volume will decrease. As the temperature of a gas increases, the density will decrease.

7 Revision Draw the structure of the atom and labels all of the parts
What size is an atom approximately? Name all the changes of state Draw diagrams to represent the different states Write down the formula for density Write down the formula for specific heat capacity Write down the formula for specific latent heat How do you convert from Joules to Kilojoules? What happens to the pressure of a gas when you increase the temperature?
