1 Carbs to Glucose Comic Strip Project

2 Comic Strip Process First, choose a food item from the list of carbohydrates. Turn that food item into a cartoon character (basically, just give it arms, legs and a face!) Example:

3 Purpose Have your cartoon character tell what happens as it is eaten and broken down into molecules to be absorbed into the bloodstream.

4 DIGESTIVE PROCESS Show your piece of food as it goes through the digestive process. Someone eats it. Oh no! Teeth chew it – (physical change) Saliva in the mouth starts to break down the longer chains into smaller chains of molecules. (chemical change)

5 3. The food pieces then go down the esophagus to the stomach.
Stomach acids continue to break down the food. (chemical change) (heat energy released) The food particles continue to the small intestine. Now the molecules are small enough to be absorbed to the bloodstream!

6 7. The blood carries the glucose molecules to the all the cells in the body to use for energy!
Finally, the food that was eaten was changed from carbohydrates (long chains) to glucose (single molecules) and now can be used as energy. Food is gone now, but person has ENERGY.

7 Be creative! Use the paper provided for your comic strip.
Use color and be neat!
