4 RDA and the SSIP focus on stakeholder role

5 Interaction The factor that separates management from engagement

6 Consider… As we enter into ESSA, we face some of the same discussions
What new partnerships will we need? What new leadership skills will we need? Who are the stakeholders? What is the role of stakeholder engagement?

7 Grounding Assumptions
One of the key strategies for engagement is surfacing our beliefs and grounding assumptions Lets see how what we think and feel about these assumptions. Is there agreement in concept? Do we see use in practice? Where is the breakdown? Do leaders falter? Do stakeholders falter? We need to help leaders and stakeholders to recognize that they need each other.

8 Engagement as Strategy
Translate complex work into ways that many people can participate Develop convening as a leadership skill Consider stakeholders as allies and investors Build habits of interaction If we believe that engagement works we must create a approach to our work that can actualize it...a participatory approach!

9 A Participatory Approach
The knowledge, skills, and dispositions to create and sustain change are distributed across groups, roles, settings, and levels of the system. Learn what works through engagement. Learn why certain interactions build deeper understanding and value to individuals and organizations. Learn how deeper engagement can influence behavior change. If we believe that engagement works we must create a framework to actualize it...a participatory framework!

13 Are You Managing or Engaging Your Stakeholders?
Relationships are undervalued as as strategic investment. Stakeholders matter! Leading by Convening, 2014 This infographic is currently being developed by state staff, stakeholders and TA centers working together to define behavior which can shape practice on each of these dimensions. Today we will add some of our ideas for them to consider... This tool can be used by state staff with their core team...or by the core team with its stakeholders...or by the core team with the pilot districts to help them think about creating more receptive local environments. Please think about joining us in developing ...and using the inforgraphic!

15 Engaging Everybody This tool helps a core team to think about how to get beyond a narrow group of participants and create roles for a wider group of stakeholders. Tools like the infographic help core teams to create activities that can be carried out by an extended group of stakeholders in support of their outreach and their work.

17 Measuring Progress Qualitative Rubrics to Quantitative Comparisons
Would an online site based on this tool that captures data on engagement over time be helpful? Would your team use it? If coaching were available based on your information that you collect from your stakeholders using such a tool , would your team be interested? How would such a tool help you with the SSIP plan and report? Leading by Convening: Bringing It All Together
