-in contrast, the endocrine
system releases hormones
to maintain homeostasis
and regulate long-term,
ongoing processes in the
body

-hormones: chemicals released by glands and cause slow changes in the body
-hormones have target cells that will respond to its presence
-both the nervous system and
the endocrine system can use
the same chemical messenger
(epinephrine)
a neurotransmitter and hormone

-both share the goal of maintaining homeostasis
-when hormone levels reach
a certain normal or necessary
amount, further secretion is
controlled by body organs and
glands to maintain that level
of hormone in the blood
