2. Camera Safety
A signed camera check out form must be turned in to use any equipment, otherwise you will use your iPad to complete all video and photography assignments.
Camera safety is your #1 priority
You are responsible for the camera and all equipment when it is checked out to you
If any of the equipment is damaged while you are not paying attention, that is negligence.

3. Camera Safety We only have 6 cameras, and they will be shared.
If a camera gets broken:
A parent or guardian will have to pay $500
Students will not be able to complete assignments
Weeks of photos or video could be lost
You will lose camera privileges
Bookwork will be assigned
A zero on the current assignment

4. Student and Teachers Privacy
When out taking photos or video:
You must ask before you take pictures of anybody
Respect students and teachers privacy
Some students at Gaiser are on a privacy list, this “do not photo list” prevents their images from being used for school and publications
Never take you camera in locker rooms or bathrooms
Never take photos through a window or door without permission
Never interrupt a teacher to ask them to take photos in their class

5. Boundaries Stay within the designated boundaries at all times
Wear your pass at all times unless you are in front of a camera, then it goes right back on when you are finished
Do not set up in front of a window or doorway, or be a distraction.
If you do not stay within the designated boundaries, you will lose the right to go out of the classroom and/or the use of the equipment and given an alternative assignment.
Do not argue with teachers when outside, if they tell you to do something and you do not agree, come back and talk with me about it

6. Emergencies while outside
In case of a fire/drill: take all equipment to the football field following all equipment safety rules
In case of a lockdown/drill: Find the nearest classroom and wait there until the all clear is given.
Take all equipment with you!

7. Check out a camera
Check out and sign for all equipment before leaving the classroom
You will use the same camera for the duration of the assignment
Do not take the SD cards out of the cameras unless directed to do so
Never use the “force” for anything, including the SD card, cords, or the tripods
Your group will take an iPad with you with a timer set for 15 minutes in order to check in with me every time the alarm goes off. Failure to check in, will reduce the time allowed outside of the classroom for your entire group

8. Outside expectations
You are a representative of our class when outside taking photos/videos
You will be held to very high expectations which include:
no goofing off or messing around
no play fighting
Do not climb on thing you know you should not be
Staying within the designated boundaries
Not touching anyone else's camera or equipment without permission
Not fighting with adults or other students
Staying focused on the assignment
Not playing games (basketball) or talking with friends
No cell phones, ear buds will not be in and phones will be put away

9. Using the Camera
Always use the camera strap, it should be around your neck at all times
Use 2 hands to steady your shot or a tripod
ALWAYS use the manual settings – If you're using a DSLR & shooting in automatic, you have the worlds most expensive point & shoot camera.
Use the viewfinder to look at the image and the display screen to view your settings

11. Vocabulary
1. Rule of Thirds - A rule that places the center of interest in an image on one of the cross points of a grid.
Aperture – The size of the opening in the lens (F-stop).
Depth of Field – How much of the image is in focus.
Exposure – How light or dark an image is.
ISO – How sensitive the camera is to light.
Shutter Speed – How long the shutter stays open to let the light in.

12. Photography Composition Rules
The arrangement of visual elements in an image
Goal: To emphasize the subject/mood/action of an image and make it both easily understood and aesthetically pleasing to the viewer
Composition includes: color, shape, line, contrast, proportion, positioning, cropping, viewpoint, rhythm, perspective, and geometry, and more
Basically it is everything in an image!

13. The Rule of Thirds
The rule of thirds involves mentally dividing up your image using 2 horizontal lines and 2 vertical lines, as shown below. You then position the important elements in your scene along those lines, or at the points where they meet.

36. Tripod Where there is a lock, there is an adjustment
Always carry it straight up and down – protect the camera
Never leave the tripod or camera anywhere, you are responsible for them
Avoid blocking traffic, doorways and classroom isles when setting up
When taking the camera off to show your work, leave the plate on the bottom of the camera
There is a screw on the bottom of the plate that attaches to the camera, turn the screw not the camera
To attach the plate back to the tripod, hold the adjustment lever out and place the plate back in, then push lever back in
