Plants: tall trees with epiphytes, forest floor: ferns, fungi, mosses
e.g., coastal redwood, fireweed, western skunk cabbage
Animals: mostly live on floor, eat seeds
insects in bark (e.g., cougars,
black bears, squirrels)
Extra Info: Soil is usually acidic
and low in nutrients. Ocean winds
drop moisture on the windward
sides of mountain ranges. There
are natural hot springs on a
nearby island that are truly
incredible to relax in on a cold day. *

Why I chose Tofino: It’s one of my favourite places to go, and I grew up fishing on the west
coast with my dad.
