1 ADA Basics Multiple Choice Quiz
Facilitator’s Notes (Slide 1) This activity gives participants a chance to learn about the different Titles of the ADA and what each Title covers. It also provides information about the purpose of the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, the agencies responsible for enforcement of the ADA, and some of the areas for which there were new regulatory changes in 2010. 4 II. Public Facilities and Services
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a comprehensive civil rights law which encompasses all aspects of community life. It has 5 Titles: I. Employment II. Public Facilities and Services III. Private Facilities and Services IV. Telecommunications V. Other Miscellaneous Provisions Facilitator’s Notes (Slide 4) This slide gives quick overview of the 5 Titles under the ADA. As you review each Title, provide an example for participants. Here are some suggestions: Title I relates to all stages of employment including the application process and all privileges of employment such as access to employee assistance programs (EAPs) and company-sponsored events. Title II relates to the facilities and services of State and Local Government entities such as Town Recreation programs, City and State Police Departments. Title III relates to the facilities and services of private businesses such as restaurants, hotels, private schools. Title IV relates to telecommunications services for individuals with hearing and/or speech impairments. Title V relates to other provisions under the Law, such as protection for people without disabilities who may experience discrimination due to having a family member with a disability or for supporting the claim of alleged discrimination by a colleague with a disability. These examples show how the ADA provides protections even for people who do not have a disability.

Then, we will discuss the answers in a large group Introduce the activity by reading the directions on the slide. Facilitator’s Notes (Slide 5): Be sure to let participants know that they will not be graded or asked to share how many questions they answered (correctly or incorrectly) with the group. Give each participant a copy of the ADA Basics Multiple Choice quiz sheet (found at the back of this Guide). Although they are working in pairs, this will allow each person to take notes about questions that may be of particular interest to them and the quiz will serve as a resource they can refer to in the future. Allow about 5 minutes to complete the quiz.

Facilitator’s Notes (Slide 6): Bring the full group back together to provide and discuss the answers for the quiz. Depending on what other material you have covered, you may or may not have addressed all of the areas covered by the quiz. Reviewing the answers with the participants provides an opportunity to reiterate or clarify points you may have made earlier in the presentation. If you have not yet covered a topic that is addressed on the quiz, you can share information about that topic when providing the answers.
