LESSON 06 SHOULD CHRISTIANS TITHE?

Review Malachi 3:10 “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts,”

Review Three Tithes: The Lord’s Tithe 10% (Num. 18:21)
The Feast Tithe 10% (Deu. 14:22-27) The Poor/Welfare Tithe 10% (Deu. 14:28-29) Once every three years

Genesis 14: “And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.

(15) And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.

(16) And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.

(17) And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale.

(21) And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.

(22) And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,

(23) That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:”

(18) And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

(19) And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:

(20) And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

Psalm 110:1-4 “A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Matthew 22: “While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

(42) Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.

(43) He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,

(44) The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?

(45) If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

(46) And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.”

(2) The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

places, and in pits. (7) And some of the Hebrews went over Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.

(8) And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.

(9) And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering.

(10) And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.

(11) And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;

(12) Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.

(13) And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.

(14) But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.”

Acts 13: “And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.

(21) And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.

(22) And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

(23) Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:”

Hebrews 1:1-3 “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

(3) Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;”

Hebrews 1:8-9 “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

(9) Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”

Hebrews 3:1-4 “Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

(2) Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

(3) For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.

(4) For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.”

Hebrews 4: “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

(15) For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

Hebrews 5:1-6 “For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

(2) Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.

(3) And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.

(4) And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.

(5) So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

(6) As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.”

Hebrews 7:1-24 “For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

(2) To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

(3) Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

(4) Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

(5) And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come

out of the loins of Abraham: (6) But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

(7) And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better. (8) And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

(9) And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. (10) For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

(11) If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be

called after the order of Aaron? (12) For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

(13) For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.

(14) For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

(15) And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

(16) Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. (17) For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

(18) For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

(19) For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. (20) And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:

(21) (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

(22) By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. (23) And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

(24) But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.”
