‘ONE WORD helps you simplify your life by focusing on just ONE WORD for the entire year. The simplicity of discovering a word that God has for you makes it a catalyst for life change. Clutter and complexity lead to procrastination and paralysis, while simplicity and focus lead to success and clarity. This 4-day devotional shows you how to cut through to the core of your intention for a one word vision for the year.’

the Passion (in Christianity) noun the suffering and death of Jesus Christ passion noun very powerful feelings, for example of sexual attraction, love, hate, anger, or other emotion an extreme interest in or wish for doing something, such as a hobby, activity, etc.

Zeal zi:l/ noun: zeal great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective.

Things to note about passion: In general, nothing particularly significant can be achieved without passion. Passion can be for good things or bad. It is not necessarily wrong to be passionate about (God-inspired) worldly things. Passion is an intrinsically personal attitude. Passion grows and fades throughout people’s lives. Passion can be built-up (‘ignited’) or diminished (‘killed’) by our own efforts, or by the actions and attitudes of others.

Colossians 3:23 (TPT) 23 Put your heart and soul into every activity you do, as though you are doing it for the Lord himself and not merely for others. Romans 12:11 (TPT) 11 Be enthusiastic to serve the Lord, keeping your passion toward him boiling hot! Radiate with the glow of the Holy Spirit and let him fill you with excitement as you serve him. 10 Fulfilling your purpose will require passion (zeal, fervency or enthusiasm). 'Purpose' has to do with our head – thinking right about why we're here and understanding our calling. 'Passion' has to do with our heart – the internal fire that motivates us and energises us to fulfil our purpose and do God's will. God is the source of spiritual passion. The Holy Spirit comes to ignite us with holy fire. Mark Connor, ‘Igniting Your Spiritual Passion’

In the world we live in, natural passion is often a key to success and impact. Knowing information is valuable, but possessing the fire is invaluable. Nothing major in history was ever accomplished without zeal. It is the deciding difference between successful and unsuccessful people in every field of endeavour. The fire on the inside affects everything on the outside. William Ward says: “Enthusiasm and persistence can make an average person superior; indifference and lethargy can make a superior person average.” Mark Connor, ‘Igniting Your Spiritual Passion’

Your Purpose is what you live for. You should be passionate about it.
But how can you know what your Life-purposes are?

Spiritual Giftings assessment:
by Gary Smalley Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality Experiences

If you know how God has specially gifted you (individually) you can be fulfilled in life and more effectively serve the church (The Body of Christ). The best outcome of all is that you may be able to match your special giftings (talents and abilities) to your vocational and recreational activities (with God‑given motivation, priority and passion).

Romans 12:6-8 (TPT) 6 God’s marvelous grace imparts to each one of us varying gifts and ministries that are uniquely ours. So if God has given you the grace-gift of prophecy, you must activate your gift by using the proportion of faith you have to prophesy. 7 If your grace-gift is serving, then thrive in serving others well. If you have the grace-gift of teaching, then be actively teaching and training others. 8 If you have the grace-gift of encouragement, then use it often to encourage others. If you have the grace-gift of giving to meet the needs of others, then may you prosper in your generosity without any fanfare. If you have the gift of leadership, be passionate about your leadership. And if you have the gift of showing compassion, then flourish in your cheerful display of compassion. Scripture quotations marked TPT are from The Passion Translation®. 17 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 (TPT) Varieties of Spiritual Gifts 8 For example: The Spirit gives to one the gift of the word of wisdom. To another, the same Spirit gives the gift of the word of revelation knowledge. 9  And to another, the same Spirit gives the gift of faith.     And to another, the same Spirit gives gifts of healing. 10 And to another the power to work miracles.    And to another the gift of prophecy.    And to another the gift to discern what the Spirit is speaking.    And to another the gift of speaking different kinds of tongues.    And to another the gift of interpretation of tongues. 18 1 Corinthians 12:28-31 (TPT) 28 God has placed in the church the following: First apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then those with gifts of miracles, gifts of divine healing, gifts of revelation knowledge, gifts of leadership, and gifts of different kinds of tongues. 29 Not everyone is an apostle or a prophet or a teacher. Not everyone performs miracles 30 or has gifts of healing or speaks in tongues or interprets tongues. 31 But you should all constantly boil over with passion in seeking the higher gifts. 19 Ephesians 4:11 (TPT) 11 And he has appointed some with grace to be apostles, and some with grace to be prophets, and some with grace to be evangelists, and some with grace to be pastors, and some with grace to be teachers. 20 1 Peter 4:9-11 (TPT) 9 Be compassionate to foreigners without complaining. 10 Every believer has received grace gifts, so use them to serve one another as faithful stewards of the many-colored tapestry of God’s grace. 11 For example, if you have a speaking gift, speak as though God were speaking his words through you. If you have the gift of serving, do it passionately with the strength God gives you, so that in everything God alone will be glorified through Jesus Christ. For to him belong the power and the glory forever throughout all ages! Amen. Scripture quotations marked TPT are from The Passion Translation®. Copyright © 2017 by BroadStreet Publishing® Group, LLC. 25 David the Shepherd was ‘a man after God’s own heart’
David the Shepherd was ‘a man after God’s own heart’. God loved David and David was passionate about God Samuel 16:1 (AMP) Samuel Goes to Bethlehem 16 The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve for Saul, when I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have chosen a king for Myself among his sons.”

1 Samuel 16:6-7 (AMP) 6 So it happened, when they had come, he looked at Eliab [the eldest son] and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed is before Him.” 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” …

1 Samuel 16:11-13 (AMP) 11 Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your sons here?” Jesse replied, “There is still one left, the youngest; he is tending the sheep.” Samuel said to Jesse, “Send word and bring him; because we will not sit down [to eat the sacrificial meal] until he comes here.” David Anointed 12 So Jesse sent word and brought him in. Now he had a ruddy complexion, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. The Lord said [to Samuel], “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.” 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David in the presence of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. …

The title of today’s message (Encounters with Passion) deliberately had a double meaning Things we come across that are characterised by great passion (What are some examples of passion that you have encountered?), and 2. 29 Philippians 4:8 (TPT) 8 So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always Scripture quotations marked TPT are from The Passion Translation®. Copyright © 2017 by BroadStreet Publishing® Group, LLC.
