Ground conditions will affect the use of outriggers and the need for packing. Mobile plant will be less stable moving across rough, uneven or backfilled ground. 3. Set up Elevating Work Platform It may be necessary to consult an expert such as your supervisor or site engineer to assess the ground for you. Wet Conditions If it has recently rained, the ground may be soft and unsuitable for heavy vehicles and machinery. If you think the ground is too soft or waterlogged ask an expert to assess the ground conditions before the EWP is set up.
