2 LARGE ANIMAL MEDICINE Rotation Emphasis: equine/ ruminant medicine
Recommended: food animal, large animal, equine, and mixed emphasis Best time to take: caseload is variable; spring for equine neonates, summer/fall for others Clinic Schedule: M-F 7:30 am-6:30 pm (till done) Outpatient/Inpatient: both; herd visit. Weekend Emergency Duty: yes; on a rotational basis with other students on the large animal services

3 LARGE ANIMAL MEDICINE What should you expect to do: history, physical exam, diagnostics and interpretation, treatment plan, medical care, patient monitoring, 2) record keeping, 3) ± communications, 4) herd visit. Organization of receiving: individuals or in pairs Service Specific Clinic Work Expectations: patient care, record keeping, sample submission, discharge orders, case summaries On-Call Schedule/ICU: participate in on-call schedule; occasional ICU duty. Study Expectations: hours “case-related” reading per admission, rounds participation/presentations, literature review as required on a case-by-case basis. LAH Grand Rounds – One case per week per rotation.
