1 COPY AND COMPLETE THE PROBLEM:
Do Now: Day: Tues-Wed Date: 1/24/17-1/25/17 Homework: COMPLETE #4, #5- DUE 1/26-1/27 COPY AND COMPLETE THE PROBLEM: How many Liters are there in 3.00 grams of Helium? Diagram Solve

2 ANOUNCEMENTS REAL LAB EXAM MOVED TO THURS-FRI- PRELAB MUST BE COMPLETE AND WEAR PANTS

3 OBJECTIVE: We can perform four multi-step conversion problems to weigh out each chemical in grams. We can then explain and justify completion of one multi-step molar conversion problem to the instructor using academic language.

4 grams atoms molecules Liters 22.4 L 1 mole 6.02 x 1023 molecules
MOLECULAR WEIGHT (m.w.) 6.02 x 1023 molecules 1 mole 6.02 x 1023 atoms 1 mole 1 atoms molecules 22.4 L 1 mole Liters

5 #6 Molar Conversion Lab Practical Practice Exam
As a group, read and annotate the practice lab exam Write down at least one question

6 QUESTIONS???

7 Directions: Each person is assigned one multi-step molar conversion task according to the card suit at the corner of your desk. (If you are in a group of three, the heart will complete the extra problem) You will have two attempts maximum to accurately calculate and weigh out each chemical in grams. Round your answer to the hundredths at the VERY END of your calculations.

8 Do not cross-contaminate chemicals.
Use the appropriately labeled scoopers/spatulas. Show all of your work on Assign #6. Double check all of your work.

9 After your ENTIRE group is finished completing their problem in writing AND measuring out their chemicals, take your chemical submissions and written work to the instructor for evaluation. The instructor will then randomly choose one person to explain how they solved their task. Before leaving class, staple all of your #6’s together and submit it as a packet to your instructor in page order

10 Verbal Evaluation (2 points per indicator x 13 = 26 points):
____ Read the problem to you ____ Underline the given in the problem ____ Circle the wanted units ____ Draw a diagram ____ Explain the diagram using a sentence with the word “because” ____ Start solving the problem with the given ____ Draw the “X” and the “ −−−“ (ratio bar) ____ Placed the correct units on the top and the bottom of the ratio bar ____ Explained why the units go on the top and bottom of the ratio bar using the word “because” ____ Explained how to put the numbers in the calculator ____ Showed you how and where to put the parenthesis in the calculator ____ Showed you how to write the answer to 2 decimal places (hundredths) ____ Used the correct units throughout the entire problem

11 Point Deductions: _______ Off Task _______ Use of materials other than a calculator and Periodic Table _______ Interacting with another group _______ Unsafe Lab Practices

12 Chemical Formulas Charcoal - C Sucrose C12H22O11 Sodium Chloride NaCl Magnesium Sulfate - MgSO4

13 SAFETY BEHIND YOU! BACKPACKS NEED TO BE UNDER YOUR DESK AT ALL TIMES
IF YOU ARE MOVING BEHIND SOMEONE, COMMUNICATE DO NOT RUN WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES AT ALL TIMES FOR THE REAL EXAM: GLOVES AND LAB COATS FOR SPADES AND CLUBS YOU MAY NOT CONVERSE WITH OTHER GROUPS

14 QUESTIONS???
