1 The Way people of Acts 9:1-2
(Acts 9:1-2), “Then Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest 2 and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.” An interesting description of the disciples of Jesus. Here a group that Saul of Tarsus sought to persecute Other References using that phrase found in the book of Acts (a favorite description of Luke or Paul?) (Acts 22:4), [Paul’s defense to the mob in Jerusalem], “I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.” (Acts 19:9), [Opponents of Paul at Ephesus], “But when some were hardened and did not believe, but spoke evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them and withdrew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.” (Acts 19:23), [A riot there at Ephesus, fomented by Demetrius, and the other silversmiths], “And about that time there arose a great commotion about the Way.” (Acts 24:14) [Paul confessed to Felix], “But this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets.” (Acts 24:22) [Felix learned about it], “But when Felix heard these things, having more accurate knowledge of the Way, he adjourned the proceedings and said, “When Lysias the commander comes down, I will make a decision on your case.” [Today the expression "The Way" is rarely used, except by parachurch organizations, individual congregations, and even some cult groups. But what did it mean in the early days of the church...?] Acts 9:1-2

2 The Way Origin and Meaning Matthew 7:13-14 John 14:6
Acts 16:17; Acts 18:25-26 PROBABLE ORIGIN (As far as can be indicated by scripture) Jesus referred to two ways in His sermon on the mount (Matthew 7:13-14), “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Jesus claimed to be “the way” while teaching His disciples (many mansions) Thomas asked, how can we know the way to where you are going? (John 14:6), “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” The only way to the Father -- It seems likely that Jesus' statements led to the use of "The Way“ POSSIBLE MEANINGS... Obviously could refer to: 1) The teaching of the gospel; or 2) The Christian's conduct directed and guided by the gospel Also, refers to the Christian community in general It connotes something of: The way of salvation (Acts 16:17), [girl with spirit of divination in Philippi], “This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, ‘These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.’” The true way of God (Acts 18:25-26), “This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 So he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Aquila and Priscilla heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.” -- It likely referred to following Jesus as "the Way" in both doctrine and life

3 The Way of Jesus The Way to God (Matt. 11:27-28; Eph. 2:18)
The Way to Life (Jn. 10:10; 11:25) The Way to Glory (2 Th. 1:10, 12; Col. 3:4) THE WAY TO GOD... “I am the way…” (John 14:6) (Matthew 11:27), “All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Ephesians 2:18), “For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.” THE WAY TO LIFE… (John 10:10), “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 11:25), “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” He offers a life with: Love, that surpasses knowledge (Eph. 3:17-19); Peace, that surpasses understanding (Phi. 4:6-7); Joy, that is inexpressible and full of glory (1 Pet. 1:8); and Life beyond this life (1 Th. 4:17), “And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” THE WAY TO GLORY... (2 Thessalonians 1:10), [Jesus will one day be revealed in glory], “when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe” (2 Thessalonians 1:12, [We too shall be revealed in glory in Him!], “that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Colossians 3:4), “When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”

4 Have you accepted Jesus as your Way to salvation and eternal life?
The Way Are you one of us? Have you accepted Jesus as your Way to salvation and eternal life? Mark 16:15-16 CONCLUSION There are many ways we can refer to ourselves (Christians, disciples, saints) All are appropriate, and though not done often, we can rightly refer to ourselves as people of THE WAY. What is most important, never stop thinking of Jesus as the Way... Have you accepted Him as your Way to salvation and eternal life...? He invites you to come to Him (Matthew 11:28-30), “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” He promises salvation to those who come! (Matthew 16:15-16), “And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”
