3 A driver must obey the posted work zone speed limit Reduced speed in work zones is for the safety of both the motorists and workers Workers do NOT need to be present for speed reduction limits to be in force Yield to any authorized vehicles or workers in the area Drivers must obey all construction zone signs and devices including flag-persons

7 Drivers are prohibited from using a wireless phone communication device while traveling through a marked construction zone This includes but is not limited to: Phone calls Email Texting/messaging Facebooking/updating Twitter DO NOT TEXT/MESSAGE AT ALL WHEN DRIVING. PULL OVER IN A SAFE PLACE

8 Wireless/cell phone use while driving is prohibited for drivers under age 19, except in the case of an emergency to contact Law Enforcement, Health-Care Provider or Emergency Services Agency. No wireless/cell phone use in a school zone All drivers and passengers (front and back) age 8 and older must wear a seat belt. Under age 8 must be secured by an appropriate child restraint system

14 IDOT and ISP combine efforts to enforce State laws in work zones If you are caught breaking any laws you will be ticketed and fined Photo speed enforcement vans may operate in work zones The vans catch your speed and a photo is taken of the driver, vehicle and license plate IDOT/ISP Hire Back Program

16 Speeding-minimum fine is $375 for first offense & $1,000 for repeat offenders Second offense within two years, your driving privileges will be suspended for 90 days $10,000 fine in addition to a three month to two-year drivers license suspension and possible prison time if a motorist fails to yield to an emergency vehicles, or who injures or kills state highway workers, firefighters or police officers

17 Suspension of drivers license includes but is not limited to: Speeding Failure to yield and proceed with due caution when entering a construction zone Causing a crash in a construction zone

18 Always be alert of your surroundings Work Zone laws including speed limit reductions are in effect whether there are workers present or not Slow down DO NOT USE YOUR CELL PHONE
