3 BEER HALL PUTSCH Nov. 9, 1923 Hitler tried to overthrow the Government in Munich Unsuccessful, Jailed, wrote Mein Kampf “My Struggle” Became a “hero” to the German people while in Jail

4 Fascism A way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government Very harsh control or authority

5 HITLER Took advantage of the psychological state of Germans in the 1920 – 30’s Used authoritative-style power to influence Germans to be completely obedient to him.

6 NAZI AIMS Destroy Communism Lebensraum Abolish Treaty (BRATS)

7 Appeasement Hitler steadily took steps to abolish the Treaty of Versailles No resistance to his actions Chamberlain did not want to “upset” Hitler, maybe prompting a World War Allowed him to chip away at the Treaty Analogy: Bad parenting! No means No!!

Eradicate Jews, homosexuals, people of color, etc. from the planet

9 Swastika Had been used for 5000 years
Symbol Meaning “Good Luck” or “auspiciousness” Hitler changed the meaning of Swastika to mean “Pure Aryan Blood” Evoke Pride in NAZI’s Evoke Fear in Jews

10 SWASTIKA RED – Social idea of the NAZI movement
White – National idea of the NAZI movement Black – Struggle for the Aryan race “National Socialist German Workers Party” Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei

12 Final Solution Economy ascending Germans feeling pride once again
Brain washed by Hitler Believed that Jews were at fault Began Final Solution

18 Holocaust Eventually, Jews were rounded up and shipped East to the death camps
