Shahada Profession of Faith
“There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah”. This must be said in front of witnesses. Muslims believe and say that there is only one clear creator.

Salat Daily Prayer Pray 5 times a day in Arabic, facing Mecca.
Muslims do not believe that God rested. There is no special day set aside to rest. They meet on Fridays at noon for collective prayers and the recital of the Qur’an. The prayer leader is called the Imam, or “one who comes before.” The prayer positions are called, “rakahs.”

ZAKAT Almsgiving Give to the poor and needy.
God recognizes that some people are rich and others are not. Each person gives a percentage of their wealth. Either 1/40th of total income or 1/20th of annual income. The poor are not expected to give. This is a charitable donation to the poor.

Sawm Fast Fast: No food or drink from sunrise to sunset.
Takes place in the month of Ramadan. Exceptions: Nursing mothers, sick, and children under the age of 13.

Make a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca once during a lifetime. Dress rehearsal for the Judgment day. Brought people together with a sense of equality. Develops the sense that the individual is accountable to God.
