1 Seesaw: Creating Digital Learning Journals
Caroline Hanley Maker Faire Greenwich Country Day School 4/4/2017

2 What is Seesaw? App with three different platforms (student, teacher, parent) Student Driven Digital Journal “Empowers students of any age to independently document what they are learning at school and share it with their teachers, parents, classmates, and even the world” from iTunes Store -Journal- not portfolio- not finished project, just documentation of they are learning in process

3 Students Can use various tools to document their learning experiences
Many features embedded in app (show examples on smartboard) Can use photo, video, voice, writing, etc Can leave feedback for peers

4 Teachers Gatekeeper of the information (notified about new additions on computer, phone, iPad depending on preference) Varying levels of control Approve parent access to children Approve new postings by students Approve feedback between students

5 Parents Access to child’s journal
Receive quick updates when new item is posted Can leave feedback for child in various ways (voice, comment, emojis) Download and save items from portfolio

6 How to get started... Create account Create folders for each student
As you introduce app, focus on one feature at a time Choose a way to invite parents ( , individual student QR code, class QR code) Different versions (free and subscription)

7 Digital Citizenship Include lessons on Digital Citizenship that cover ground rules for leaving feedback, looking at other’s work, and posting to peers’ folders

8 Parent Feedback “It has been a great conversation starter and an interesting look into our daughter's day.” “Seesaw is a great way to get a behind the scenes look at what our children are doing. Keep it going!” The majority of parents felt that setup of the app and leaving feedback for their child is easy. -add personal take away- have enjoyed seeing a dialogue develop between parents and students, and also learning more about students by seeing what they post. Also gives them way to document those things that are important to them (block structures, reading, etc)

9 Try it out! What are some way you might use Seesaw in your own classroom?
