1 8 Characteristics of life
All living things express characteristics of life. These 8 characteristics determine if an organism is living or not. Made of one or more cells Displays Organization (cells, tissues, organs etc.) Grows and Develops Reproduces Responds to stimuli Requires energy Maintain homeostasis Adaptations and evolves over time Organism: anything that has or once had all these characteristics of life

2 Organization of living things
All living things are divided into 3 domains that are further categorized into 6 Kingdoms This organization is based on their characteristics of life

3 Domain Broadest grouping of living things Three domains:
Archaea- no nucleus. cells wall without peptidoglycan. Ancient bacteria called extremeophiles. Kingdom: Archaeabacteria Bacteria- no nucleus. cells wall with peptidoglycan. Common Bacteria. Kingdom: Eubacteria Eukarya- have a nucleus and other membrane bound organelles Kingdoms: Protista, Fungi, Plantae, Animalia

4 Kingdom All domains are further divided into more specific groups called kingdoms Each kingdom is specified by their characteristics
