What has been done
The basic procedure of operation follows ”scheduling and control”.
Is this still the answer?

Power balanced

3. How about look at the context first
Such routine is natural when we have the control of the generation thanks to the generation technology
The routine is developed in history on the ground of available technologies, especially steam units.
If we have another context, let’s ask the following question
The available technologies are
Renewable generation
ICT
Grid interactive demands
What if we had another set of technologies available at the beginning, would we strive to the same way of operation as well as grid structure and requirements?

4. The challenges Intermittency of the generation as well as the demand
Variability and uncertainty
Generators and demand mix, difficult to forecast
Residential PVs
Prosumers
EVs
Interface with other energy systems, heating&cooling, etc
Risks are increasing with the amount of renewables in the system

5. Smart grid vision Larger + Bigger + Faster
The system should be able to handle the intermittency to the minimum

Reduce intermittency
Exploit the energy flexibility of generation and demand
Balance the intermittency
Fast regulation
Mitigate the forecasting error
Poll and send energy at any time, anywhere by anyone
