Testing, Test, Test, Test HISP 102 Test 2 on Friday, April 4th

2 The Test Format: a. Thirty (30) multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank questions. b. One (1) brief essay question. Material to be covered: The test covers the readings and in class material as well as the assigned reading through. “What Constitutes a Cultural intangible?” scheduled for Friday, 28 March. So we cover Standards of Historic Preservation through cultural intangibles.

3 Resources You have the text and your notes from class:
Our website has study guides for each topic. However, the topics relating to Government preservation at the state level have been collapsed into a single study guide. The outside readings are either on the class website under “Reserve” or they are present at a url given in the syllabus and on the study guide. You may study together, the examination is not collaborative, neither will you be allowed to have your notes available. You will only need a dark pen for the exam, you do not need a bluebook for this exam, paper will be supplied for the essay.

4 Question Types Expect to see questions again asking you the purpose and parts of the National Register nomination. Expect questions about the limitations on the protection offered by the Historic District ordinances (as a preservation portion of land use planning). Review your notes on what we saw in our brief walk downtown. Expect questions about landscapes and the similarities and differences between preservation and environmental protection. Expect questions about archaeology. How is it distinct, what are the most important laws impacting archaeology, what has the field of archaeology contributed to the broader activities of Historic Preservation. What does the Historic Preservation community do in preparation or response to natural disasters? What is the value, and values of not-for-profit preservation organizations? What is a cultural intangible. How is it similar and different than the cultural resources that are the focus of Historic Preservation?
