“Assembly Robot” is an industry term for a robot that used in lines of parts or components for assembly of industrial automation and is the core of the flexible assembly system automation equipment. It’s used for lean industrial processes and have expanded production capabilities in the manufacturing world. An assembly line robot can increase production speed and consistency. The tools at the end of arm can be customized for each assembly robot to cater to the manufacturing requirements and used for all applications.
Assembly operations with industrial robots can make the process faster, improve efficiency and accuracy.

• Robotic assembly offers many benefits
In assembly automation robots may be equipped with vision technology to accommodate e.g. inconsistently located parts or components. Additional, robotic vision is also available to improve efficiency and accuracy. Robots can perform tedious and dull assembly tasks leaving factory personnel to do other jobs, whilst at the same time quality is improved.
• Round the clock production is a cost effective option
Robots will work 24 hours a day all year round without the need for a break. They will eliminate downtime, reduce labour costs and provide a high return on investment.

Assembly robots are widely used in all kinds of electrical appliance manufacturing, auto and its components, computer, medical, food, solar, toys, machinery and electronic products and their components and other industries, as shown in figure 9-2.

Classifications of Assembly Robot
Currently, there are four types of assembly robots in industrial applications that are common: cartesian coordinate robots, six-axis articulated robots, SCARA robots and Delta parallel robots.
Among, the cartesian coordinate robot is mainly used in the assembly of energy-saving lamps, the assembly of electronic products and the assembly of LCD panel.

However, the six-axis robot has the widest range of applications and can accommodate most situations. Additional, the SCARA robot is widely used in the assembly of products such as electronics, machinery and light industry and the Delta parallel robot is mainly used in the field of IT and electronic assembly.

The assembly robot’s system consists mainly of manipulator, controller, teach pendant, assembly operating system and peripheral equipment, as shown in figure 9-3.

• Assemble operating system
This assembly operating system consists mainly of the transport-type end effector and vacuum negative pressure station, and the manipulator has the visual system.
• Peripheral equipment
The peripheral equipment of assembly robot’s system, such as fence, the robot platform, transmission device, the device to put workpiece, parts feeder, facilitates the system to complete the whole assembly.
