Check your timeline flags! What do we know about their culture? Each king lived in a palace built on a hill Had thick, stone walls to protect them Nobles lived on large farms outside the walls Enslaved people and workers lived in villages Made clothes, jars, leather shields and metal swords

Use your vocab! What was the purpose of an acropolis? An acropolis is a temple built high up on a mountain or hill Make an inference as to why you think they existed What was an aogra? City-State A city state is a city made up of small states, or territories. City-States in Greece were made up of: an acropolis, an agora, city neighborhoods and villages and farms on the outskirts. Draw a map of what you think it looked like and describe its parts!

By 700 B.C. farmers could not grow enough food for everyone People were sent out to form colonies Where did the Greeks settle? Along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea Sicily, France, Spain, North Africa and Western Asia Why did the Greeks mint coins? To make trade easier! How did the colonies make Greece stronger? Each different colony created its own specialty – something it was good at making Greece had more good Trade increased and Greece became wealthy
