1 What is bim? And why the iPads should be included in the apprenticeship course and help our students achieve more??

2 Using ipads to complete the diploma and by including bim will:
Decrease the amount of paperwork used on the apprenticeship course Encourage the students to interact with one another and progress at team work and want to be involved BIM gives us a clearer understanding of how much material is needed, what components are used and how we are going to construct the system correctly (a better alternative to a paper drawing) Easy access to the White/Site Book and any other literature available on the web. Puts the students in their comfort zone Makes it easier to send tutors work by which can be used as evidence in their portfolios Their companies may be using BIM which helps the apprentice gain knowledge and a better understanding of how it works

3 Building Information Modeling (BIM)
What is Bim? Introduction Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places. Building Information Models (BIMs) are files proprietary formats and which can be exchanged or networked to support decision making about a place. Current BIM software is used by individuals, businesses and government agencies who plan, design, construct, operate and maintain diverse physical infrastructures. These range from water, wastewater, electricity, gas refuse, wall types and communication utilities to roads, bridges and ports, but mainly houses, apartments, schools, shops, offices, factories, warehouses and prisons, etc.

4 bim What can BIM offer? Easy access to your files and up-to-date BIM projects Easier to submit their unit work book, recapping quizzes, feedback, synoptical test and assessment plans Lets the students design and build any wall type they want in the DWA metal stud areas Allows you to zoom in on a drawing detail and gives you a clearer and better understanding by being able to walk around the area with a 360° view

5 BIM is the future because it:
Helps with design Tells you if a job is over running Tells you if a job is over budget Identifies if any snagging is needed Allows building collaboration Gives a holistic view of cost Can be 2-D, 3-D, 4-D, 5-D, 6-D….

6 Bim Using the iPads with the students Using the apple lightning VGA adapter allows you to mirror what appears on the instructors iPad onto the smart board screen. Benefits: It gives the audience a clearer and better understanding, which allows them to follow instructions easier with the other academies iPads in front of them Encourages team building sessions More interactive and encourages the ones that wouldn’t generally be verbal and lack in confidence to participate more via the tablet

7 BIM on the go Bim Quick and easy access to (large) models
Easy-to-use navigation using the richness of touchscreen interaction Quick and easy access Useable both online and offline "We were keen for the App to be easy to learn, so we wanted to use gestures that are common in other standard Apps, such as two-finger pinch and drag to zoom and pan which you'd do with the iPad Photos App, for example. We wanted navigation to be appropriate for BIM, such as keeping the camera upright as you orbit around, and being able to walk; whilst also being compelling to use, like playing a game, something that you'd want to keep using and learn to master. ’’ Lee Mullin BIM designer

8 Bim No more paperwork This is the bloke from the USA who was once pictured next to a few boxes of drawings and manuals in a basement. Now he features worldwide in every presentation as an illustration of what clients don't want. They don't want this bloke standing next to big boxes of paper 

9 Why BIM is for the apprentices
Building Information Modeling (BIM) forms an important part of the new Higher Apprenticeship. The NVQ qualification is for people working in the construction and building services sectors and has pathways for Construction and Built Environment and Building Services Engineering. Several companies have helped shape the qualification, which has been welcomed by The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) as being key to ensuring the future competitiveness of the industry.

10 Bim is a hot topic BIM is a hot topic in the industry at the moment – but what exactly is it? BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a design process used to create a digital model of every part of a building or asset. This allows streamlined management of project information across all stages of the asset lifecycle.

11 Bim is also… BIM is… A process that involves creating and using an intelligent 3D model to inform and communicate project decisions. Design, visualization, simulation, and collaboration enabled by Autodesk BIM solutions provide greater clarity for all stakeholders across the project lifecycle. BIM makes it easier to achieve project and business goals.
